The Skills in Demand (SID) visa (subclass 482) is a new visa introduced by the Australian government to address labor shortages by allowing employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas. This visa replaced the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa on December 7, 2024

Eligibility: You must be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor, have the right skills for the job, and meet the relevant English language requirements
Streams: The SID visa has three main streams:
Specialist Skills Stream: For high-earning professionals with no specific occupation list
Core Skills Stream: For occupations on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) with earnings between $73,150 and $135,000
Essential Skills Stream: For essential skill occupations with earnings under $73,150
Stay Duration: Up to 4 years, with Hong Kong passport holders eligible for up to 5 years
Pathway to Permanent Residency: The SID visa provides a clearer pathway to apply for permanent residency
